brought about a few innovative ideas about WPT, and especialy the notion of non continuous systems for optimal energy projection (Shaposhnikov) and the possibility to use WPT to power robots that will explore the bottom of craters near the poles of the Moon (Fujino). Furthermore, several projects were presented for short term WPT experimentation in orbit in preparation for future SPS projects (Mankins, Takano, Savvin). Pr. Field Visit during lunch, the WPT'01 participants could
meet the future users of the WPT system and understand the real conditions
for design and implementation of the system. Especialy, during the helicopter
flight, they could observe the intended location for the projectors
and collectors of the microwave beam. |

was won by Japanese researcher Yoshiyuki Fujino, with an array of patch rectennas. The prize, of 5 000 French Francs, was given to Dr. Fujino on the occasion of the closing ceremony of the conference. The University of La Réunion had presented (here below) an array of wire rectennas installed of a highly transparent structure with large honeycomb-like cells.

The Round Table evidenced the necessity to tackle without delay the non-technical aspects of WPT, such as the protection of the ISM frequency bands (Kaya), or the questions concerning system ownership and management (Fork). Bruno Renard, the Regional Delegate of Ademe, mentioned the importance given by the European Union for the development of renewable and sustainable energies. Eventually, the representatives of the local collectivities called for the creation of a mixed government/industry management structure (SEM), to continue the development of the Grand-Bassin project.
